New monitor

Posted in Linux, ubuntu by microwavebiscuit on March 10, 2007

My old monitor served me well, but was starting to die so I went to Best Buy today and bought a new one. It’s a Samsung SyncMaster 906BW LCD which is 19 inch widescreen. I hooked it up, ran dpkg-configure xserver-xorg and it worked. I’m not sure if I love the monitor -it is bright, shiny and looks pretty good but the “default” resolution is 1440 X 900 which is actually lower than the resolution I was running (1600 x 1200) on my old monitor. It may just take a little getting used to. My old monitor was a CRT which took up a ton more real estate on my desk. I also gave consideration to running a dual head setup and keeping the old monitor connected just for kicks but decided against it.
