New Theme
Does this mean I might begin posting again? Am I motivated to revive this blog? Probably not but I like the look.
It’s not dead it’s sleeping
Haven’t blogged much lately. I haven’t forgotten it and I hope to have some new things to blog about quite soon.
Just a test
Move along….
Interesting Headlines
Looking at My Yahoo! this morning and saw this:

Looking at the time of the articles, it seems as if the offer is going up…
The News
It’s not unusual for me to get aggravated about the world of news but today I managed to get ticked off (enough to blog about) twice on my “My Yahoo” page.
First, here’s a screen grab of the “Top Stories”:

Notice the interesting usage of the word “Soar” in two different headlines.
Next, music news:

First of all, I really don’t think that “reform” is the right word there. Someone may correct me but I would use a hyphen in there as in: re-form. Secondly, how exactly are they going to re-form without Sid? Yes, I know Glen Matlock was the “original” Sid but they’re getting back together to celebrate (rip off aging Punk rockers??) Never Mind the Bollocks 30th anniversary and it seems quite cheesy to me. Perhaps they can take the show on the road and sell $400 gold circle seats.
So, there you have it. I suppose I get annoyed at the news on a daily basis (whether it’s the news itself or the reporting of it) but occasionally I get a bit bent out of shape enough to comment.
Interesting Photo
I went into my bathroom last night and when I turned on the light I noticed this lizard on the outside of the frosted “privacy” glass that we have. I ran and grabbed my camera and when I came back he (she? it?) was still there so I snapped a few pictures. It wasn’t easy getting the exposure, focus, etc correct and I found that the best picture came out with the flash on.
Also - just to add a little open source to this post, I imported the photo to my Ubuntu PC and then uploaded it using KFlickr which is a handy little app!

Message received. I disabled the Snap plugin. I don’t know if it only takes effect for new urls or if my old urls will stop the snap preview.
Defective DRM
Today I purchased a new DVD - Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat which I was very much looking forward to watching this evening on my laptop. I unwrapped it and put it in the DVD drive of my almost brand new Dell Latitude D820. The drive made all kinds of weird seeking/spinning noises and then wouldn’t play. I ejected it and tried again but it still doesn’t work. I’ve had this happen before with commercial DVDs on this laptop so I’m assuming that one of the copy protection schemes on certain DVDs won’t allow the movie to play on this laptop. It’s incredibly frustrating to purchase a DVD and then not have the ability to play it. I’m traveling this week so I can’t just pop it in my home DVD player and watch it. It almost makes me want to return the disk and get my money back then see if I can’t find a download of it somewhere. This is what DRM does to me - next time there’s a new DVD that I want while I’m traveling I’ll skip buying it because of the uncertainty of being able to play it on my laptop.
New Linux Fan
Yesterday we went to a festival and there were tons of dogs up for adoption/rescue. We found Sadie here and couldn’t leave her. We had to take her home.
Sadie is a 2 year old mutt who is awful cute and super sweet. We walked her around the festival yesterday with thousands of people and hundreds of other dogs. She was calm, cool, and never even barked. Our cat is less than thrilled about it but the rest of us are very happy to have a new family member.
Blog Stats
I’m keeping an OpenOffice Spreadsheet on my blog stats. Here are February’s results (mind you I just started the blog at the end of the month).

* The Comments/Post is a bit misleading as some posts have no comments and some have multiple. I also couldn’t easily filter out my own “reply” comments so they are counted too.
